Home ยป Things You Can’t Do: Develop Expired C41 in Illford

without comments

I just tried to develop my first roll of film using Illford B&W chemistry. The roll expired in 2007 and came from a disposable C41 camera.

Right now the film is hanging to dry, black, in my shower. There was a hole in my light-tight door seal, but there are enough variables here that isolating the problem is tricky:

  1. The film had expired.
  2. It was color and I was using B&W chemistry.
  3. It was C41.
  4. I don’t have a termometer.
  5. I don’t have a stopwatch.
  6. The dark room wasn’t.
  7. I was hacking a disposable.
  8. It was my first day.

C41 caffenol development is possible, however, and that’s what I’m working towards.
