ยป The Prince of Canada
Of course, the problem with that line of thought is that it doesn’t account for externalities. That is, I don’t have to vote for myself — I can just try to vote in a way that makes other people happy. It’s like the chess game in The Seventh Seal: You have to lose, but you can help other people lose more slowly.
I was thinking about that today, watching Prince Charles arrive in Newfoundland. His life seems so surreal, so abstract. He’s the object of so much symbolism that he-as-person must of necessity disappear into it.
In a sense Prince Charles has very little power, like us with our votes. His actions, his degrees of discretion, are tightly constrained — he can’t even freely travel — and yet he manages to be of service.

I’m watching the CBC now in violation of my news ban. The broadcaster — a white male — literally just said, mockingly, that only white males care about the monarchy, to titters from the PC-racist crowd.
Yes, we’re a hopeless joke, self-hate in the extreme. Television off! Off!
Keep calm, etc. — just let the fuckers ruin society. Focus on mental health reform and the poor, lose the battles the big, fat middle of the normal curve wants to fight in their shrieking bougie monkey voices. “We should get rid of symbols so we can lower taxes and spend more on television and McDonalds… DURRRRRR!”

I care about the monarchy! Just the Queen, though, not Charles.
Re your post: I actually read an article a while back talking about how hard it’s going to be for Charles to become king, because right now he’s been involved in charities, making political statements, etc. and once he’s king, he’ll be required to stop and become impartial and give up a lot of what he seems to view as his “mission”.
