More clips praising enlightened ego gratification. First, from Rand herself, who wrote the screenplay adaptation of The Fountainhead:
Second, Gecko. Note that this speech is a perfect application of the laws of power. Gecko frames his corporate raid in terms of toppling corrupt management and helping the little guy. This speech skirts Rand so closely that I’m tempted to say it only differs by synonym:
Rand in her own words. Her insistence on the objective nature of reality is interesting, because her ideas apply equally well, or better, if you assume (as I do) that reality is totally subjective:
Ed Snider, the owner of the Philadelphia Flyers, the Philadelphia 76ers, the Wachovia Center, the Wachovia Spectrum, Comcast SportsNet, and some other teams and companies, on the effect Atlas Shrugged had on him. He starts with a good joke about employment:
Here’s part two, and here’s what he means by “the mystics of spirit and muscle”.
I agree that capitalism needs to be taught in school: High school though, in addition to university.

This is Ayn Rand speaking:

Intelligent kids have their work ethic damaged by the school system because it never challenges them. Essentially, you’re rewarded for not putting in effort so you learn not to try, or that inspiration is sufficient. This is well-known now, and a big problem for several of my friends.
In this interview Rand complains about that effect in her life, and how defeating that conditioning in necessary for artistic projects:
It’s good to see that someone’s done some formal thinking about the orthodoxy and orthopraxis supporting the Nation of Player Hation — “The Era of Envy”, I like that. Good also to get a peek behind the media facade of Snyder at the haters in his life.

Donahue’s question in this, “why do we this dual set of behavior standards [with regard to expressing self esteem]?”, has a more basic answer for me.
We have two sets of behavioral standards because we have two kinds of people: Those free of slave morality, and those still attempting to impose it.
Ayn Rand’s favorite TV show? Charlie’s Angels, of course, a show about three women succeeding at great endeavors. I like that: Action movies as a vehicle for the Superhuman.
Part two of this interview is really putting nails socialism’s coffin for me. Obviously not her complaints about “the subnormal”, but rather her support of funding for schools for the gifted. Starving my family to feed someone else’s is not moral.
