Rumor has it that MiniFor is axing people today, or did so yesterday. Trying to confirm through my contacts there…
[Update: Confirmed. They started notifying "redundancies" -- gotta love bizeuphespeak -- just over an hour ago.
Stumpage -- the fee paid by logging companies to the Ministry for the right to log the land -- is way down, apparently, this year. These employment cuts probably reflect that.]
“Redundancies” is so 2002. They’re “workforce adjustments” now.
MiniNRG got cut yesterday, are you going to report on every time the provincial government lays a few people off?

Combined with the layoffs at MiniPlenty, we’re at over a thousand jobs cut from Victoria’s biggest sector. This is news because the Liberals are failing on employment.
