I Hereby Declare This To Be An Unlawful Assembly

October 1st, 2009 by Jack

If I was going to make an album, I’d call it An Unlawful Assembly and this would be roughly what the intro would sound like, if I could clear the samples and engineer the levels better. The sources were all red-zone, and I don’t know what to do about that — it’s supposed to sound like chaos tho:

Special thanx (for samples):

  • The City of Pittsburgh Chief Police and his LRAD crowd control weapons.
  • Me, Spacekat, and Eric the Viking on the guitar track, from a jam session I recorded (poorly) in Edmonton. My guitar-fu is not strong so I don’t know if that’s only a jam or if it’s an actual song. Anyone know?
  • RoboCop — ED 209 kills all the protesters. The trick to matching his voice is to max out the levels like with a bullhorn and then pitch it down around five octaves. I should probably sawtooth the movie sample or something to match it to the bullhorn.

All done in Audacity and GarageBand, both of which are completely amazing. The track is made to be heard with headphones, ’cause I do stuff with the stereo channels and letting the song mix in air isn’t as pleasant.

Guitars are crap – those samples could make a great dance track!
