Normally I’m more into reading about comics than reading the actual things, but I’m not going to complain. Simon tells me today is Free Comic Book Day – go get one! It may or may not be disheartening to read reviews first. I’m hoping to get the Battlestar Galactica prequel, and vampires vs zombies.
Vampires vs zombies is an awesome idea. Vampires vs werewolves is a racial thing, which might be what the Third World fights over, but modern empires fight over natural resources like oil. What more poetic natural resource can there be than humans (or at least their brains and blood)? And what are the two most mythic consumers of humans? It’s so obvious once you’ve heard it! Although hopefully they won’t fuck it up like the first creators to try.
As obvious as the basic conflict may be, the zombie and vampire parameters need to be fine-tuned to make humans overwhelmed but vampires not. I’ll let you know…
Vampires vs Zombies wasn’t available at my local store, so I had to read it online. The zombies are slow, and so I’m not sure that I buy their genocidal ability, but it also makes it believable that a couple of vampires could effectively protect a bunch of humans. The humans’ dilemma (blood vs brains) is framed as an amusingly simple choice.

The recommendations section on the Vampires vs. Zombies IMDB page are the best part…
Anyway, using the no true scotsman argument, if it’s fast then it’s not a zombie – it is probably a ghoul.

Cool distinction. It’s not ideal terminology, though, as apparently some zombie experts, including Romero and Brooks, have used the terms interchangeably.
