There’s a nice little reading of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off that’s been making the rounds* that Ferris Bueller is Cameron Frye’s dissociative identity in the same way that Tyler Durden is [Jack]‘s identity in Fight Club. The original articulation (as far as I can find) was on Metafilter, but this blog post explains it better.

* I first heard of it in, of all places, the National Post – so I suppose it’s already jumped the shark?

  1. I think you did a very good job explaining it when we were camping. I read the link and think the points you made camping were echoed there. It still bugs me that the girlfriend would be cool with cameron and ferris being one personality though, maybe she likes crazy men. She can date two men for the price of one, or something.

  2. She’s not dating two, she’s just dating Ferris. Just as Marla is only dating Tyler in Fight Club. And surely Marla had the impression that Jack/Tyler was not quite normal.
