Kasey turned me on to Democracy Now! back in the day with the classic line “I want to have Amy Goodman’s babies.”

Here’s David Harvey talking about a bunch of period-point-blank stuff (as I say, The G20 Summit, American Reconstruction, and Karl Marx):

The rest of the interview is on Harvey’s site (which also contains a set of video lectures on Capital, indexed here).

He gets into something I’ve been saying for ages and ages to any of you who will listen (no worries — few do). I’ll lay it on you once more in Harvey’s words, because mine don’t work:

Harvey: We have a myth in this country that home ownership is the “gospel”, as it were, but for a lot of people home ownership is not a good idea. And I think, actually, it’s not a good idea in general.

Goodman: Why?

Harvey: For two reasons. One is it makes you, actually, very vulnerable if you’re a heavily debt-encumbered home owner. And actually the initial legislation was kind of interesting, the debate around it back in the 1930s, when it kind of said, “debt-encumbered home owners don’t go on strike”.
