I gotta say, the Conservatives are doing a fantastic job of controlling the media discussion this cycle. The CBC has been given over wholly to their attacks on the three opposition parties. Harper pwns my mediasphere. It’s too bad that today’s Conservatives are based on hatred and corporate handouts, otherwise I’d be supporting them (I’m roughly a libertarian-plus-healthcare).
I’ma call it now: Unless the Liberals step up their media game they are gonna lose this notional fall election. Again.
The more often this happens the more churn the parties will accept in their candidates. If you want to get into politics join a non-Conservative party now, network, and then stand in a couple of months when the Libs collapse the gov again.

I hope there is an election for the purely selfish reason that I have too many vacation days1 left this year, so I plan to use one or two of them to do something fun2: be a poll worker3.
1 – I have too many vacation days, not because I’m a workaholic, but because my wife got a new job in August which greatly limits her vacation time this year.
2 – That I would consider that fun says something.
3 – No working the poll jokes, please.

I was a scrutineer for the PC Party one year. Bring a book

The way voting is recorded was changed in the last federal election to move work from scrutineers to voting clerks. The joke is that now instead of, you know, scruntinizing stuff, scruntineers just eat doughnuts all day.

That’s basically what we did back in the day. I disagree with Wikipedia’s definition. I wasn’t there to double-check the count, I was there to make sure every registered PC on The List had voted, crossing them off as they did so.
